A Short Post

I realized that my last post looked longer than I thought it would. That made me think.

First.

"I couldn't sleep last night, so I got up, ate a bowl of cottage cheese, and learned Perl. Two main points I came away with were that Perl is great with files; opening them, parsing them, editing them, you name it, Perl can do it, and easily - also that it's tightly integrated with unix."

That's what I wrote in my notebook during my discussion today. It occurs to me that I wasn' t quite awake - or happy - both due to the lack of sleep. Linguistics 210: Intro. to Linguistic Analysis is an enjoyable class most of the time. In fact, it recently produced some striking parallels to my computer science coursework - trees and recursion. I'll probably write about that at some point, similarities between natural language and computer programming, but not right now. So you've got that to look forward to.

I've been thinking about starting a blog for quite a while now. I wanted to start writing more, to improve, to build confidence, and to start influencing the web instead of just trolling on wikipedia. But I couldn't come up with a name for it. I'm sure all the bloggers reading this have experienced this before, that feeling that whatever you eventually choose will come to define you, possibly in a bad way. I've always had trouble choosing screen names. Usually I end up picking something rather random and not really caring about it afterwards.

Don't worry about representing yourself poorly by self-title choices, you can always delete them later if they really bother you.

I think that's why facebook is so easy and comfortable. You don't have to come up with a title for your page - your parents already did that for you. I mean, not that facebook doesn't have it's problems, but I won't get into that here...yet.
